Red-winged Blackbirds, Bosque del Apache, New Mexico

Red wing blackbirds were one of my favorite birds as a kid. When we were on roadtrips, they would often be perched on fences along the road. Good thing they have a beautiful wing patch since their song is terrible! They often hang out in swampy areas like this guy singing from goldenrods which are bog plants. In the winter, redwings gather in large flocks and put on quite a show:   (Click).
