The Scarlet Macaw is endangered since so many have been captured for the pet trade. In addition, much of the primary forest that they inhabit has been destroyed. We saw a Scarlet Macaw perching on a tree near Carrara National Park but he was mostly obstructed. Years later we saw this fellow eating from a fruiting tree at Amazonia lodge in Peru (more pictures can be seen in the Peru section). It is more common to see Scarlet Macaws in flight and we saw this pair at Carrara:   (Click)
