Sharp-shinned Hawk, Los Alamos, New Mexico

The Sharp-shinned Hawk is one of the more common hawks in our home town of Los Alamos. However, it took me till 2013 to get a good shot. This Sharp-shinned Hawk liked to wait at Warbler Pond for up to an hour at a time allow for great shots:   (Click). Before we had a good telephoto, my mother witnesses a very interesting scene at warbler pond. First a garter snake gave birth to several babies in the pond. Soon after that a Sharp-shinned hawk swooped in an took away several baby snakes! The scene probably looked something like this with the impressive talons in display  (Click). This all happened soon after warbler pond was built in the early 90s.
