The Northern Flicker is very common in our home town of Los Alamos. It is actually the bird that got Roger Tory Peterson interested in birding. When the Flicker is in flight you can catch their beautifully colored wings (Click). After many tries I got a look at their beautifully colored wing while this guy was preening:   (Click).
