Mountain Chickadee feasting on sunflower seeds, Los Alamos, NM

Mountain chickadees can cling to sunflower heads to get the seeds. Other birds like goldfinches and buntings cannot cling upside down leaving them to perch on top in an attempt to get as many seeds as possible. This shot proved difficult to obtain since the chickadee quickly takes one seed at a time and flies off with it to eat it elsewhere. I ended up with several artistic shots like this trying to catch this guy in the act:   (Click) . Finally I got a shot of chickadee who had just plucked a seed using incredible acrobatics   (Click).
