Margay, Rio Santiago, Honduras

The Margay cat hunts in the canopy and is usually very difficult to see. This female Margay was orphaned and people at Rio Santiago helped raise her. Although she is now hunts on her own, she still stops by for a visit giving a rare glance at this amazing climber. I got to see her scale enormous canopy trees as if they were nothing.

They are somewhat smaller than Ocelots and have a different but beautiful pattern of their own. They also stay more in the canopy whereas Ocelots hunt on the ground. In order to balance in the canopy they have a bigger tail than Ocelots.

Here is a rare shot of when she actually came down to the ground!
