Scarlet Macaw, Amazonia Lodge, Peru

The great Macaws are fairly easy to see at the Amazonia lodge. We saw Blue and Yellow, Red and Green and Scrarlet Macaws in flight. However, it is not easy to photograph them. Macaws tend to perch at the top of the canopy at fruiting trees. First seeing them perched is a challenge since there are many fruiting trees that they like and they cover a lot of territory. When one does see them they are often way up high and the lighting is terrible for photographs. On our last day at Amazonia, we finally saw a pair of Scarlet Macaws feeding in a fruiting tree that wasn't too tall and the lighting was good. It is amazing to see them in nature. Here is a shot of when he spreading his amazing wings:   (Click).
