Hepatic Tanager, Los Alamos, New Mexico
Hepatic tanagers are probably the most difficult tanager to see in North America. However, Los Alamos is in their range and they like to eat insects and fruit from the fruit trees at my parents place. In the spring the migrate through when there are blossoms on the fruit trees. In the fall, they eat fruit from the same trees: (Click). Different males seem to have different shades of red. Some have an orange tinge and others more reddish.
