Snow Geese, Bosque del Apache

In the winter, Snow Geese number the tens of thousands at Bosque del Apache. They arrive with their young from their northern breeding grounds which they share with Artic Foxes, Polar Bears and Snowy Owls. Professional photographers from around the world photograph their flyout that takes place early in the morning. After many trips to the preserve, we finally got the perfect light to capture the flyout shot above with a beautiful sunrise. You can the flyout starting from the flight deck in the right hand portion of the picture. Geese from other areas had already taken off and can be seen as silhouettes against the clouds. Here is a high resolution shot for those with large monitors: (Hi Res). This next shot is well after the initial flyout and gives one an idea of what Snow Geese really look like:  (Click). The flyout shots turn out much more artistic due to the light of sunrise and the low light making for an endless set of interesting shots: (Click)   (Click).
