Cactus Finch, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

This is one of Darwin's finches that lead to his work on evolution. These finches (actually tanagers from the mainland) adapted their bills to take advantage of the food on the island. The cactus finch is always found on the prickly pear cactus. Their beak is often covered with yellow pollen like in this picture as they drink from the flowers and eat pollen.
