After being to national parks in the US and on safari in India, I became used to waiting patiently to see big game animals. Birding became a major hobby partly because, mammals were few and far between whereas birds are reliable if you go to the right habitat. On our first day on Safari in Tanzania there were zebra and wildebeest as far as the eye could see. In the first 3 hours we saw elephant, lion, rhino, buffalo, zebra, antelope ...It was shocking to see the abundance and diversity (Hi-Res).
