An endangered white rhino with over 1 million flamingos in the background. The white rhino is endangered due to the illegal trade of rhino horns. Since 2000, the flamingo population at Lake Nakuru has been decimated due to severe drought as well as contamination of the lake water. It is shocking to follow the news at Lake Nakuru and to learn that the amazing ecosystem is in major decline since our fairly recent visit.
