In Serengeti, the lion population is so large that there is approximately 1 for every square kilometer. We could get real close to this handsome fellow since he was fast asleep. I never realized that lions actaully strike their majestic pose that we see in statues, moveis, etc. This guy posed perfectly which never seems to happen when I see a lion in a zoo: (Click). Also, it is very clear the king is very relaxed being at the top of the food chain. This fellow was acting like our kitty cats at home and has no qualms about exposing his belly to everyone while preening himself: (Click). We even saw large prides of lions at Serengeti and the Masai Mara (Lo-Res) (Hi-Res). It was also lion mating season we saw four mating pairs. The guides knew to keep their distance from a mating pair so we never got too close: (click). Eventually, we ended up avoiding lions since harder to see animals like cheetahs and leopards try to avoid an area if a lion is nearby. Here is a high resolution shot: (Hi-Res).
